The Director of Talent Acquisition (TA) for Strategic Education, Inc. (SEI) will be the functional lead of the TA Center of Excellence (COE), responsible for all U.S. hiring. The primary responsibility of the Director of TA is to create and implement strategies for identifying, attracting, and hiring top talent. This includes leading a team of ~10 (recruiters and TA managers) in hiring hundreds of positions a year across various job families and role types: including, executive and management positions, corporate function roles, operations staff, academic staff, faculty, technology positions, etc.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition Strategy Development:

  • Develop and execute the talent acquisition strategy for the company.
  • Build strong relationships with business and HR leaders, plus key stakeholders.
  • Forecast hiring needs based on business growth plans.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects and initiatives related to TA.

Recruitment Process Oversight:

  • Manage the team of U.S. faculty and corporate recruiters.
  • Source and attract top-quality candidates for executive-level positions.
  • Conduct interviews and extend job offers.
  • Facilitate internal mobility.
  • Oversee the entire recruitment process, from job postings to hire.
  • Leverage AI and Automation to improve sourcing and recruiting processes, driving quality and efficiency.
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracting (i.e. for reference and background checks, recruiting agencies, etc.).

Employer Branding:

  • Implement online and offline employer branding activities.
  • Participate in recruitment events to raise awareness of the company.
  • Develop a diverse network and pipeline of potential future hires.

Metrics and Evaluation:

  • Measure key recruitment metrics (e.g., source of hire, time-to-hire, etc.).
  • Evaluate and manage team performance.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Proven experience as a TA Director or 3-5 years of direct leadership of recruiters in a TA function.
  • 7 – 10 years of transferable experience, ideally in TA and/or HR.
  • Advanced expertise in sourcing techniques and tools (e.g., social networks).
  • Strong understanding of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATSs) and HCM systems - preferably Workday.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster long-term relationships.
  • Considerable experience with executive recruiting.
  • Experience developing and refining HR policies related to TA.
  • Mature and effective people and team leadership skills.


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred from an accredited institution.


  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%). 
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
  • If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • Faculty and Federal Work Study roles require access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including computer, privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.

  • Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant. Accommodations related to schedule may be considered.

$130,300.00 - $195,500.00 - Salary
