In the role of Senior Manager, Talent for our Assessment & Qualifications division you will be at the forefront of driving significant transformation. This newly created role, spans all aspects of talent including the way in which we acquire, select, and mobilize new and existing talents across our business to meet business demands but to also enable our teams to fulfill their full career potential at Pearson.

You will manage a large diverse global team, whom, under your leadership will support the achievement of one of our core multiyear objectives; to become a talent and skill-based business. Achieving this will require you to consistently evolve, challenging current ways of working, thinking or practices.

In addition, you will be part of a collective cohort of HR & Leaders using influence to drive positive change towards a future focused and highly predictive, diverse talent mobility practice.

As a strong business partner, influencer, and expert in your space you will collaborate with your HRBPs to ensure we are operating as One HR, always aligned, and connected on pain points and successes. You will be a strong people leader, with a keen focus on performance and engagement. Understanding and maximizing on your teams’ strengths desires and limitations to create the optimal level of focus and result.

Some key areas of focus in this role include:

  • To be an advocate, educator and champion for business and HR on what talent selection looks like. Ensuring that we are working as one to deliver the best possible diverse range of talent with the best possible experience.

  • Be a strong partner, building trust and credibility through performance results and expertise.

  • To create a level of agility within your team maximizing resources to ensure all roles are managed with the same level of speed, attention, and dedication.

  • To be a conduit for talent performance with your own team and business areas- regularly soliciting and acting upon feedback to create the conditions for growth.

  • Partner with supporting functions and teams to proactively understand and highlight areas of opportunity or risk to ensure business continuity.

  • Leverage data to drive operational effectiveness (Team & business), drive performance and identify quick wins/gaps in our operations to be rectified.

  • Standardise, stabilise, and create a level of consistency in practises and processes (where applicable) to minimise legal or reputational repercussions as a result of hiring practices.

  • Identify ways to provide a best-in-class candidate experience and interview process across all points of the candidate’s lifecycle adapting where necessary.

  • Track, analyse and communicate talent trends, making recommendations for changes and improvements to stay ahead of market conditions. This includes TA dashboards for HR and Business stakeholders.

  • Identify, source and/or develop appropriate tools and processes to support business direction.

  • Attend Leadership meetings and provide updates to senior management.

  • Partner with VP HR & Management teams on succession planning, Internal mobility and to create bench strength across the business units you support.

  • Be an ambassador for diversity as a growth lever ensuring we maximise all channels and opportunities to present a diverse candidate slate for selection.

  • Strong leadership skills (directly, indirectly and on a global scale -remotely)

  • Deep knowledge of the recruiting lifecycle and the needs of core users (candidates, recruiters, coordinators, hiring managers, interviewers, leader & HRBP’s). Ability to put that knowledge to use through the development of continuous improvement plans and or other programs of work

  • Self-starter with a keen sense of urgency and ability to work in a fast-paced, complex, and scaling environment

  • Coach and develop line managers to be competent with writing/updating job descriptions, CV screening, candidate management, ORC usage, interviewing skills and giving positive and constructive feedback

  • Monitor relevant labour legislation and implement required changes to keep the process compliant, including full compliance, end-to-end, with GDPR and other global data protection laws

  • A strong belief in diversity as a force for good
