As a Sr. Director of Talent Management, you will be an integral leader within the Global Talent and Leadership Development Center of Expertise (COE). You will form a strong consulting partnership with senior business and HR leaders to understand the business strategy and translate it to a localized talent strategy, effectively assessing and determining the critical talent needs and shaping COE-developed programs to maximize deployment. You will also lead a team of Talent Management Directors and Talent Management consultants and focus on the development, engagement, and retention of a high-performing diverse team.
This role is a hybrid position with key stakeholders and partners in Minneapolis, MN. We will prioritize talent over location. Qualified internal applicants who are currently remote are encouraged to apply.
Bringing Talent Management to Life
A day in the life may include the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.
Talent Mastery
- Functions as an enterprise talent master, orchestrating senior leadership moves across Medtronic and providing strategic oversight.
- Act as a strategic partner to senior leaders and HR Business Partners to proactively diagnose organizational, talent and culture needs.
- Create, influence and lead impactful talent strategies that enable business success.
- Design and activate enterprise organization and talent programs (I.e., Strategic Workforce Planning, Retention, etc.)
- Enable objective differentiation of talent based on capabilities, potential, behaviors and aspirations.
- Translation of business needs to the ongoing talent assessment and outcomes including talent development, placement and succession.
- Ensure retention of critical talent pools, domain expertise, and continuity of our leadership and diverse talent pipelines.
- Identify, differentiate and calibrate future leaders of the organization.
- Create/refine succession plans, identify development actions to accelerate successor readiness, and identify internal & external talent needs.
- Design content for and facilitate quarterly talent and diversity conversations with leadership teams, reviewing the talent strategy and priorities, as well as progress on key measures.
- Accelerate slating, onboarding and development of Vice Presidents through a defined support approach, clear expectations, and strategic consultation on identifying internal and external talent, onboarding and executive development plans.
- Consult, coach/mentor and share talent management & leadership development best practices.
Enterprise Performance Enablement
- Ensure rigorous enterprise performance management process through strategic consultation to consistently and objectively evaluate employee performance.
- Have frequent, transparent, effective and inclusive performance and career development conversations with direct reports to maximize their performance and accelerate readiness for new opportunities.
- Facilitate leadership team discussions to translate annual business priorities and leadership behaviors that drive clarity and accelerate performance.
- Be a thought leader on career development for all strategies and determine localization approach.
- Provide peer coaching and mentor colleagues in Talent Management.
Culture Steward

- Ensure an inclusive, diverse, and equitable workforce, identifying gaps in female and ethnically diverse representation, defining mitigating actions including attracting, retaining, developing and promoting female and ethnically diverse talent, and embedding these actions in the talent strategy.
- Drive senior business leader engagement and accountability as owners of Medtronic’s inclusion and diversity efforts in part through effective facilitation of quarterly diversity reviews.
- Partner closely with Global Talent and Leadership Development COE to design programs and tools that meet the unique needs of the business, and deploy targeted solutions as needed (i.e., assessment, coaching, talent acquisition, analytics, etc.), incorporating the Medtronic Mindset.
- Leverage the Organizational Health Survey to measure engagement gaps and define mitigating actions to be embedded in the talent strategy.
- Proactively address opportunities within your team and the Global Talent Management COE.
Leader of People
- Lead a team of talent experts focused on our enabling functions, regions, and/or Operating Units. Team may consist of Talent Management Directors, Consultants and/or Specialists.
- Attract, engage, develop and retain a team through active coaching and feedback, effective performance management and succession planning.
Must-Have: Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree and 15+ years of Human Resources experience (Talent Management, Change Management or Organization Development/Effectiveness consulting is equivalent to HR experience) with 10+ years of managerial experience (people or program/project management.
- OR Advanced Degree and 13+ years of experience with 10+ years of managerial experience (people or program/project management)
Nice to Have
- Experience leading people.
- Master’s degree (I/O Psychology, MBA, or MA Human Resources).
- Subject matter expertise and facilitation experience in talent planning, performance management, talent review and succession planning, competency modeling/role profiling, and culture, inclusion and diversity strategy implementation for a global, matrixed organization.
- Extensive project management experience with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in program/process design, as well as process improvement .
- Change Management or Organization Development/Effectiveness experience.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic, proactive consultation to senior leaders.
- Experience analyzing data and turning into insights / action plans.
- Strong understanding of external talent landscape and best practices.
- Experience with HR systems such as Workday, highly proficient in PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel up to 15%-25%

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
