Position Summary

The HR and Recruiting Assistant for The Salvation Army Northern Division is responsible to collaborate with hiring managers to ensure a smooth and efficient recruiting, hiring, and onboarding process. The HR and Recruiting Assistant also provides ongoing assistance to managers and employees during an employee’s lifecycle, answering general HR questions, maintaining files/data, and serving as a liaison between HR, hiring managers, and payroll.

This position is full-time with a work expectation of 40 hours a week. Expected pay is $22.00 per hour.

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)

  • Respond to inquiries from employees, providing guidance and support. (20%)
  • Manage the employee compliance lifecycle for accuracy and completeness, ensuring data integrity by accurately entering and maintaining applicant and employee data and files (e.g., offer letter, background check, new hire paperwork, reviews). (20%)
  • Manage internal and external job postings. (15%)
  • Assist hiring managers with finding creative, meaningful, effective recruiting and interviewing materials and practices. (15%)
  • Disseminate applicant and employee information between hiring managers, payroll, and HR. (10%)
  • Conduct new hire orientation for Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) employees. (5%)
  • Complete employment verifications and assist with gathering audit data. (5%)
  • Maintain up-to-date employee information lists (e.g., birthday, inclement weather, anniversary). (5%)
  • Provide front desk backup coverage (e.g., answering phones, controlling building access). (5%)

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Two years college coursework preferred.
  • Two years of relevant experience required.
  • Must pass background checks.
  • Valid driver’s license and meet the MVR driver’s qualifications preferred.

  • Proficient with HRIS (human resources information systems), PC, Microsoft Office, and standard office equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Mostly sedentary work, sitting for long periods of time and working on a computer with some periods of bending, lifting, reaching, and crouching.
  • Professional environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
  • Must be able communicate clearly in English, and work in person or on the phone.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 30 pounds.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.                                                                                                                                                            

Travel/Driving Requirements

Occasional travel/driving within the metro to support HR functions, if MVR cleared.
