Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility that provides power to rural Wright County and western Hennepin County. The cooperative has been a corporate citizen to the area since 1937 and currently serves more than 50,000 electric accounts.

The HR Generalist provides a broad scope of services to support Wright-Hennepin supervisors and employees.  We are a small but mighty HR team supporting nearly 200 employees.  This newly-created role reports to the VP of Human Resources and partners closely with the HR & Payroll Specialist, Facilities Manager, and Safety Manager.  Additionally, there will be interaction with managers and employees and involvement in a wide variety of HR activities and processes. This role will support and assist other areas in the HR department as needed, including projects and initiatives owned by the HR team.

45% - Recruiting and On-Boarding

Meet with Hiring Managers to understand scope of the position and create job postings.  Identify additional sources for job postings.  Support hiring managers and engage their teams in identifying the best candidates for their teams. Coordinate   interview schedules between hiring managers and candidates.  Deliver and send offer materials. Track candidate pre-employment drug screening and criminal background checks. Send on-boarding materials to new hires. Conduct new hire orientation, review benefit offerings, company policies and company overview.  Notify proper internal channels of new hires. Coordinate with hiring manager to schedule first day activities, including ID badge, building tour, safety training, and benefits orientation.

30% - HR Process

Coordinate annual job description review and update market pricing for job changes.  Launch mid-year and year-end performance reviews. Communicate deadlines and provide system training to employees and supervisors.  Track participation of required development and safety trainings. Partner with Senior Accountant and HR & Payroll Specialist on annual compensation and bonus processes. Lead annual open enrollment process, hold education sessions with employees, and ensure benefit documents are updated.

15% - Employee Relations

Provide guidance on and interpretation of policies, procedures, and labor contracts to employees and supervisors; consult with VP HR if questions/concerns are more complex.  Guide supervisors through creation, delivery, and follow-up of performance improvement plans.  Conduct exit interviews and provide termination checklists to supervisors. Assist with administering and tracking Leave of Absences and Workers Compensation. Review ADA requests and accommodations and work with Facilities Manager to provide necessary equipment.  Participate in employee engagement events and employee committees.  Assist with labor relations activities and contract negotiations.

10% - Internal Communications

Post job openings on internal and external sites in accordance with brand standards. Create and share employee communications. Update HR content on internal Intranet site, including benefits, policies, and documents. Work with Marketing team and VP HR to build the Wright-Hennepin employer brand, and leverage it in the community through strategic advertising, social media, career fairs and specialty searches.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, Psychology or related field strong preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in recruiting or human resources
  • Understanding of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Must be capable of building strong relationships with partners throughout the organization and with external partners
  • Proven strong planning, organization and prioritization skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and diffuse difficult situations
  • Demonstrated strong consultative and influencing skills
  • Ability to handle personnel matters and difficult situations with extreme poise, tact and maintain highest level of confidentiality
