Recruiting In A Pandemic: Add COVID-19 Content To Your Career Page And Job Descriptions
September 02, 2020
Question… these past weeks and months (and next weeks and months) what is the one thing that is on most everyone’s mind every day in some way?
Something related to COVID-19.
What is the one thing missing from 90%+ of all career pages and job descriptions that most people are thinking about besides salary?
COVID-19 content.
Another question…
If you were going to do a job search (voluntary or involuntary) wouldn’t you want to know what a potential employers current working situation is?
Likely.
So… why is it missing from your career page and job descriptions???
You should have to be addressing this when you're recruiting.
This is one of the many topics I covered in my mid-August webinar, Pandemic Recruiting: What You and Your Team Should be Doing Right Now
Here is what I would be doing if I were you…
I would surely talk about where are we working now be it at home, office or some hybrid version.
Here are examples of content I have seen in job descriptions the past weeks:
-
Due to COVID-19, this position is expected to start remotely, and will eventually report to our Corporate HQ office
-
As we continue to navigate the impact of COVID-19, you may encounter a longer job application, interview experience and/or a deferred offer of employment for this position.
-
Remote due to Covid 19
-
Due to COVID-19 and recommendations from the CDC, interviews for this position will be conducted via phone or video until it is no longer necessary. Please let us know if you need assistance with this technology.
-
90% of our staff is currently working remote. While we don’t have a clear vision of when, how we will return to the office we are likely not going to until Jan 2021 at the earliest.
-
We are currently working remotely from 7 am to 7 pm CT with core hours of 10 am to 3 pm CT. In 2021 we expect to work in the office 3 days per week.
-
This role will be based in Minneapolis, MN (remote work until further notice due to Covid-19 restrictions)
-
The position will be 80% remote work/work-from home during regular business hours and 20% at our administrative offices.
That’s my minimum.
The next thing I am going to do if I can is like this partial screen shot from the Arctic Wolf career page:
Tell people what to expect.
Can you imagine doing a job search and finding this page? How would you feel? Relieved, engaged and more curious come to my mind.
Are potential candidates getting that feeling from your career page today?
Here is a different way to go about it… click => Cigna Coronavirus Candidate Resources and promote it like the image at the top of this post.
If I were you, and yes that is bold of me to say, regardless of who I am hiring, their skill set or location… I am going to answer as many questions up front as I can knowing and stating that this is the information we have at this time.
The next thing I would do and I am mostly being funny with some sincerity… I’m going to listen to the webinar I mentioned above. 60 minutes of things I would be (am) doing while recruiting during this pandemic.
