Minnesota Morning: I Was Scolded Today
February 18, 2020
I met an old friend at a coffee shop today and they gave me a legit smack down. It’s not how our chat started nor why we were getting together.
At one point they asked me about what I am working on, thinking about, ideas on my mind, events I am going to be attending and what is going on in the Minnesota recruiter and tech scene.
I had answers for all of that of course.
That’s when it started…
They wanted to know how they or anyone would know anything about any of it other than a few posts on Twitter and Instagram.
“You don’t” was my easy answer.
“That’s your problem” was their quick reply.
We got further into it and I said I had a lot on my mind and that the past weeks I was “decorating” my office wall with post it notes and then using some mind map software so I could take those things on the go.
I showed them the photos of the post it notes… the ideas, topics, events and to do’s on my brain.
After they finished laughing… they said, “Geez, that’s a lot. Is your brain full yet?”
They then asked why I don’t write any more and that every 12 to 18 months I say I am going to and then don’t.
“Frankly, I don’t know that anyone would find it interesting.”
Observation: When I first started writing I had things to get stuff out of my head. For me and not others. That sounded like a great idea then. Still does. Somewhere along the way I started thinking about SEO, best time of day to post content and following a content calendar. I took things too serious. Got bogged down with it all. The fun went away.
And I stopped.
Let’s see if this restart sticks…
