Largest Downtown Minneapolis Employers 2015

Minneapolis Downtown Council

Interesting stat from the Minneapolis Downtown Council 2015 annual meeting… the 15 largest employers in Downtown Minneapolis employ 50,583 people. That’s down 1.1% from a year ago.

It needs to be noted that Target is down 20% from last year:

- A large number are now working at the Brooklyn Park campus

- Layoffs and likely this number will drop again this year in part to the Target Canada layoffs

The list with +/- 2014:

  1. Target Corp. 10,000 employees | -20.5%
  2. Wells Fargo & Co., 7,000 | no change

  • Hennepin County Medical Center, 6428 | +10.8%
  • Hennepin County, 5,015 | -4.7%
  • Ameriprise Financial, 4,974 | -2.4%
  • U.S. Bancorp, 3,944 | +14.8%
  • Xcel Energy Inc., 2,603 | +63.2%
  • City of Minneapolis, 1,800 | -2.7%
  • ABM Industries Inc., 1,678 | new to the list
  • RBC Wealth Management, 1,485 | +19%
  • The StarTribune Co., 1,282 | +12.5%
  • Capella Education Co., 1,240 | +8.7%
  • Thrivent Financial, 1,085 | +6.7%
  • TCF Bank, 1,031 | -5.0%
  • Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, 1,018 | -1.7%

I’m speculating with this… overall employment has to be up in the downtown area between organic growth of companies and the addition of startup, tech and agencies in the Warehouse District.
