Job Search Advice Seminar: Be Your Own Headhunter

Be Your Own Headhunter, Job Search Advice, Job Search Tips

After a number of presentations this spring (2014) including the alumni association at the University of St Thomas, two sessions at MinneBar 9 and an interview on WCCO AM (CBS) Radio about March jobs numbers and employment in Minnesota (see photos below)… I have had a lot of folks asking if they could talk with me about their job search.

With the improving economy many folks are taking a look around to see what is available and there are those impacted by layoffs nationally and locally (Target, Best Buy, Thomson Reuters, Cargill, etc) who are looking for some guidance.

I think the best way I can be of help is to bring back my job search presentation: Be Your Own Headhunter.

The first live session is May 6th at Noon (Central time, Minneapolis).

The session will run 2 to 2.5 hours including a lot of Q&A from those attending. Yes, if you ever wanted to ask a Headhunter about a job search this is the time to do it.

If you cannot make the live session no worries… I will be recording the session and make it available on demand.

When:

    • Live => May 6th - (Central time, Minneapolis)

    • Not able to attend or seeing this after May 6th? Click Be Your Own Headhunter for the archive and next live date

Job Search Seminar: Be Your Own Headhunter

This is an aggressive… no “BS” approach that many have called the butt kicking they needed to become more proactive in their job search be they employed or unemployed.

If you already have an optimized LinkedIn profile and know how to do advanced searches, are connecting with HR, Recruiters and Hiring Managers on social media sites, know how to find email addresses of hiring managers vs applying to [email protected] and are getting timely feedback on your resume then this session is not for you.

If you are wondering how to create/use your network, how to find the “hidden job market” (it’s not hidden), be more aggressive with your job search approach or are relying on job boards to find jobs to apply to then this session is for you.

I will challenge you to think like a Headhunter and empower you to take control of your job search.

2.5 hours seems like a long time but I cover a lot of ground including:

  • Current economic and job statistics
  • Conduct a personal online audit
  • LinkedIn: optimize profile, search strings using keywords, title, company, skill set and location, how to connect
  • Social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, etc)
  • What to say online to attract recruiters
  • Selling and marketing of you, would you hire you
  • Creating, using and supporting a network
  • Company source of hire, where do recruiters find candidates
  • Finding a job is a job and a contact sport
  • Where to find job postings
  • What are these hidden jobs people talk about, how do you find them
  • Research companies, decision makers, hiring managers and recruiters
  • Email: what to say
  • Follow up: when and how often

I am going to show you how I would do a job search using my 16+ years of recruiting experience.
