The wheels of the med-tech community in the Twin Cities started turning fast Monday. From out of no-where Boston Scientific (Natick, Massachusetts) made a bid for Guidant (Indianapolis, Indiana) today.
It appears that the main interest in Guidant is the cardiac rhythm management unit based in Arden Hills. Boston Scientific CEO and President stated that the plan is to retain all employees. That’s a big deal for the Twin Cities as 3,100 are employed in Arden Hills.
Boston Scientific will likely need to divest of Guidant’s stent business in order for the Department of Justice to sign off on the deal.
Boston Scientific already employs around 3,000 employees at its Maple Grove office.
I will write some more on Tuesday with links to local and national print stories.
