On July 30th, 2010 the 11th Minnesota Recruiters Conference brought 200 Recruiter and HR professionals to a new location and a new format.
Thanks to Rebecca Warren, General Mills Recruiting Manager, and their team for hosting us. I was a bit nervous as after doing 10 of these at Best Buy (where we will be doing more events at) as there are always those things that are specific to a location.
But this was as smooth as it gets.
The other change was the format.
Our first couple of events had around 125 attendees so it was easy (easier) to have conversation, Q&A and general interaction during presentations.
When we moved to bigger space for the next 8 events it took out some of the intimacy we had in the smaller group.
For this event we went with a structured unconference. By that I mean we had How To’s and Discussions picked ahead of time but it was up to attendees to pick what they wanted to go to.
We ran four sessions at a time and while the sessions were sort of set up in corporate, search/consulting and social media tracks there were a lot of folks who went to one session and I would have thought they would have gone to another.
While I tend to down play the hype after an event this might have been our best event.
It was that good.
Here is the invite for the event:
And event day slides including sponsor and speaker information:
I did not get as many photos as I usually do (see below) with running the event, leading one discussion and doing my “Closing Candidates: The Last Ten Yards Are The Hardest” my camera was in my pocket most of the time.
But we did score an interview with Scott Goldberg of KARE 11 TV. He was looking for some information we could give to job seekers who may be struggling with their job search. He interviewed:
- Steve Lewis, Executive Director, Talent Acquisition at Deluxe Corporation
- Kevin Gunn, Director Talent Acquisition & Development at ev3
- Rebecca Warren, Recruiting Manager at General Mills
- Me
