Not exactly the weekend is it? Well for some it is. If you were on the freeways yesterday during rush hour you may have wondered where everyone was. Or today if you are in downtown or near the U of M it is very, almost eerily, quiet. It’s almost like a movie where an alien space ship sucked all the people up. Men in Black III, perhaps?
It has been six weeks since I started this topic “Weekend Talk” and this only being the second post. For the most I started it so I had a place to talk about other things related to being a Minnesotan like local festivals, non-business news, the weather (of course), and other things that are not related to the recruiting world including news of the weird like the note below regarding the air guitar competition.
I will do these on the weekends (this being an exception) to respect my recruiting friends and their feeds during the week.
-L.A. Wedding
My friends Michael and Melissa were married at the beginning of June. I was not able to attend but I received many pictures of the event. They had a perfect ceremony next to the ocean in Santa Monica on what was a picture postcard beautiful day.
Here is 2 ½ old Lily as she is walking down the aisle. Oh how we will never let her, or her mom, forget this…
-Vintners cultivate state's first wine trail for tourists A great article on Minnesota’s growing wine industry.
-The USA Air Guitar Championships I must have missed my invitation to the event. With a little practice I could have been a contender. The 12 regional competition winners met at the “Finals” in New York City on June 22. The event was sold out.

-Taste of Minnesota
This evening is the last day of the Taste of Minnesota. I saw on the news over the weekend that if a person ate a “serving” of each kind of food and drink that a person would consume 1,000,730 calories. I have no way to verify that number and it does some high but oh man, the clogged arteries.
Besides food where else can one see these bands over a four-day period? Groups like: Alice Cooper, Bobby Vee, Tim Mahoney (I am a big fan going back to my U of M days), Los Lonely Boys, Ipso Facto (Another favorite from the 90’s), Davy Jones (Yes of the Monkees), and Soul Asylum (Minnesota’s own).
Tonight you get David Cassidy and local favorite G.B. Leighton.
Music as varied as the food.
-Basilica Block Party
What do you get when you combine 25,000+ people and two days of outdoor concerts? A party with a lot of beer at a Catholic Church of course. This weekend July 7-8 is the 12th Annual Party of a Higher Order.
This was started to raise cash for repairs to the facility and to bring young people back to the Catholic Church. Click What’s it all about for more information on the project.
This year headlining bands are: Train, Guster, The Fray, and Aqualung.
