Information Architect

Immediate Need

Full Time Job

The primary responsibility of the Information Architect (IA) is to meet the product/business objectives by applying research and user-experience best practices to organize information in ways that are meaningful, intuitive, and add product/business value. The IA is critical to the success of each interactive project. Success requires thorough understanding of all aspects of user experience practice, including interactive strategy, usability, persona/scenario development, interaction design and information architecture.

The IA must be a team player that is able to collaborate with all internal teams to create and document site architecture via task flow diagrams, site maps, content models, wireframes and related deliverables. The IA reports to the Senior Design Manager.

The IA conducts and writes competitive analyses, conducts best practices research, creates detailed site-map and wireframe documents, and works with the Product and Engineering teams to insure project vision is realized. The ability to understand and communicate complex user interfaces and detailed information requirements is essential. Experience conducting usability testing is considered an added value but is not required.

The IA uses various research methods to understand customer needs, business requirements, and brand-related design issues, and uses these findings to create documentation that satisfy all three. This person is able to work in a collaborative, iterative and agile fashion by incorporating incremental improvements into architecture throughout project evolution.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ability to assess competitors and compose comprehensive analyses and recommendations
• Ability to define and articulate business requirements and user goals
• Create detailed site-maps, wireframes, and related documentation that define solutions to address product/business, user, and functional requirements for the project
• Approach problem solving from a customer or user-centered point of view
• Work closely with the Product and Engineering teams to translate IA documentation into completed applications

Experience & Qualifications:

• A strong understanding of the principals of information architecture, usability, interactive media, interaction design, and dynamic graphic user interfaces
• Expert user of Visio and/or OmniGraffle and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, JavaScript, AJAX and DHTML a plus but not required
• 4+ years of experience in web-based information architecture/interaction design and/or interactive strategy
• An outstanding portfolio of detailed functional specifications, interaction flows, site-maps, navigation systems, wireframes, and related documentation
• You must be a team player, detail oriented, comfortable working with highly technical teams, able to accept criticism and move on to the next idea, and able to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• A strong understanding of advertising, marketing and design principles, and how they apply to, and are used on the web
• Past experience in a studio or agency

Education:

• Four-year college degree, or equivalent experience
• College degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Design, Industrial Design, or related area is a plus

Software Web Developer

Position Overview:
The Software Web Developer has intermediate experience with Microsoft web site development, Client/Server Windows applications and a very good understanding of relational databases such as T-SQL, SQL Server or Oracle. This position requires strong Microsoft ASP.NET experience and the ability to develop complex custom applications to meet the specific business needs of the company. The candidate should have some experience with web based applications and e-commerce related sites. Best practice, functional and process knowledge of consumer web e-commerce engines is a critical part of the position. Web experience and understanding in areas such as: customer registration, checkout, shopping cart/basket, product catalog navigation, product detail, and other standard web site attributes are highly desirable. The Web Developer will work closely with Senior Web Developers, Business Analyst, QA, and Business Owners throughout the full life cycle of projects.

Principal Accountabilities & Authority:
-Enhance and support Web Internet and e-commerce systems.

-Develop applications using standard Microsoft development tools such as Visual Studio.
-Develop using C#, ASP.NET, HTML, and JavaScript.
-Unit test applications using ShopNBC standard testing methodologies.
-Accountable for meeting delivery dates on assigned projects and tasks.
-Support the business during and after hours as needed.
-Other duties as assigned.

Education:
-Bachelor's degree (B.A.), or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
-3+ years of software development experience
-2+ year in e-commerce, retail, or web development segment
-2+ years of .NET programming with C#
-Has experience in designing, developing, deploying and supporting Internet sites.
-JavaScript, .ASPX, and HTML experience is a must.
-Knowledge of .NET framework and Libraries for .NET 2.0 and 1.1.
-Relational Databases - T-SQL, SQL Server, and/or Oracle experience.
-Familiar with UML and Agile/Iterative/RUP development methodologies is a plus.
-Capable of self-starting and leading development efforts. Multitask capable.
-Able to support after hour escalated issues needing attention and works well under pressure.
-Practical application of creative solution solving with the determination to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
-Knowledge and use of various diagnostic methods to solve web site issues or problems.
-Understand the benefit and use of a multiple environment system development process, such as: development, test, stage and production.

-Experience with working with defect tracking software, such as Bugzilla or other similar products.

The Quality Assurance and Testing Knowledge Center covers the following job classifications:

• QA Analyst
• CRM Roles

These roles help organizations measure current quality assurance capabilities and implements techniques to improve product quality and end-user satisfaction. Our consultants provide high value, expert level software quality assurance assessments, recommendations, training, and testing services to businesses developing software applications for internal or external deployment.

Behaviors Desired in all Roles:

• Professional consulting skills including communication, time management, and client interaction
• Researches issues by consulting procedure manuals and systems documentation
• Knowledgeable of industry best practices and industry standards
• Knowledgeable of the Systems Development Life Cycle
• Appreciates the importance of a project plan and how to work from one
• Provides input for creative recommendations based on area of responsibility
• Applies modeling and best practices
• Familiar with modeling tools and their functionality
• Prepares written materials that are clear, specific, to the point and complete
• Experienced with MS Office tools: Microsoft Word & Excel, PowerPoint
• Trains analysts who are less senior
• Comfortable working with client’s management team
• Interviews client personnel to gather information as needed
• Ability to simultaneously handle working on multiple projects
• Self starter with little need for supervision
• Enjoys working in a team environment

QA Analyst

BS in Computer Science, Software Quality Engineering or equivalent with 2-5 years of software QA and testing experience

• Demonstrated ability to extract functional requirements, write test plans and develop test cases
• Experience in developing automated test scripts and using automated test tools
• Experienced with load and performance testing techniques and tools
• Testing Tools Experience: Test Director, WinRunner, LoadRunner, RUP, defect tracking tools
• Programming Languages Experience: Shell scripts, PERL, SQL
• Operating Systems Experience: Windows, UNIX, Linux
• Databases Experience: MS SQL Server, MS Access, Oracle

CRM Roles

Refer to QA Analyst description.

• Has experience in working with customer facing process flows (a.k.a. workflows, callflows specifically) used by the front office (Sales and Contact Center) or used directly by an organization’s customers / self service.
• Has worked on a CRM application or IVR application installation or upgrade project.
• Has a clear understanding of CRM as a business strategy.

The Network and Security Knowledge Center covers the following job classification:

• Network/Security Consultant

This role provides support for the network infrastructure and security needs of clients and projects. The goal is to help establish secure and stable network infrastructure foundations for projects and upon which clients can confidently build.

Behaviors Desired in all Roles:

• Researches issues by consulting procedure manuals and systems documentation
• Knowledgeable of industry best practices and industry standards
• Knowledgeable of Defense In-Depth practices
• Appreciates the importance of a project plan and how to work from one
• Provides input for creative recommendations based on area of responsibility
• Prepares written materials that are clear, specific, to the point and complete
• Experienced with MS Office tools: Microsoft Word & Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project
• Mentors consultants who are less senior
• Comfortable working with client’s management team
• Interviews client personnel to gather information as needed
• Ability to simultaneously handle working on multiple projects
• Self starter with little need for supervision
• Enjoys working in a team environment

Network/Security Consultant

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent with 8+ years of network infrastructure and security experience
• Demonstrated ability to perform infrastructure assessment and document/implement recommendations
• Experience in designing network infrastructure and sizing
• Experienced with server configuration, optimization and performance monitoring
• Network Technology Experience: VPNs, routers, load balancing and clustering, network protocols, LDAP, Active Directory, backup and recovery, data centers, etc.
• Network Security Experience: Security policy development, firewalls, intrusion detection and incident response, server hardening, vulnerability and risk assessments, penetration testing, patch management, etc.
• Server Operating Systems Experience: Windows, UNIX, Linux, Novell
• Application Server Experience: MS SQL Server, Oracle, Exchange, Groupwise, IIS, Project server, Apache, Tomcat, etc.
• Certifications : MSCE, MCP, CNE, SANS or other security certifications, LPI, Cisco, etc.

Twin Cities IT Consultants, Nerd Search Would Like To Speak With You

I am looking to speak with IT professionals interested in working in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul as technology consultants. This can be done as a full time employee, contract or project basis. W2, 1099, or corp to corp.

   

If you are on a contract at the moment get in touch with me anyway. I do a lot of long term planning and I know that you would like to move from one gig to the next. So if you are 3 weeks or 6 months from availability I still want to speak with you.

Business Analysts
Experienced in requirements development for application development and package selection projects including Use Case development experience. Additional desired skills include working knowledge of RUP, experience with logical data modeling, RFP writing, user acceptance test case development, and ability to conduct user acceptance testing.

   

Microsoft Developers
Operating Systems Experience with Windows .Net, and databases MS SQL Server, MS Access, and Oracle. AND / OR demonstrated ability in ASP (non.Net) development using Visual Studio 6, as well as knowledge of Visual Basic or C++. Capacity to utilize Object Oriented Design and Development (OOD), Use Cases, UML, and RUP.

   

Project Managers
Ability to manage software development and package selection projects for CRM Effectiveness, ERP, Financial/Accounting, or Data Warehousing projects. PMP certification, Six Sigma certification, and 5+ years experience managing projects of ranging sizes.

   

Java Developers
Working knowledge of Struts, EJBs, JSPs, JDBC, XML/XSL, and HTML. Must demonstrate J2EE industry standards and protocols, object modeling and Use Case abilities, as well as being experience in Java, SQL, C/C++, Shell Scripts, Unix, Linux, Windows, MS SQL Server, and Oracle.

   

Quality Assurance Analysts
Shows ability using TestDirector, WinRunner, LoadRunner, RUP, and defect tracking tools. Language experience in Shell Scripts, PERL, and SQL. Knowledge of operating systems Windows, Unix, and Linux and databases such as MS SQL Server, MS Access, and Oracle.

   

Data Architects
Familiar with and able to implement leading database, modeling, ETL, and delivery tools within the business intelligence market. Skilled in data analysis, best practices, data mitigation, enterprise data workshop, and data size estimations.
